Can I use non-Hoover solutions in my Hoover carpet cleaner?
Can I use non-Hoover solutions in my Hoover carpet cleaner?
We recommend that you use Hoover solutions to ensure best user experience and no machines damage. We offer a wide variety of solutions and pre-treats depending on your cleaning needs. We would love to get in contact with you directly to discuss the options, but we recommend navigating to the Hoover Cleaning Solutions page and picking up what fits your needs.
Carpet Cleaner leaking after use.
Carpet Cleaner leaking after use.
To reduce leaking after using your carpet cleaner we recommend that after you are done cleaning, put your unit in the upright position and wait about 5 seconds before turning your unit off. This will allow the water you were just sucking up to finish traveling to your dirty water tank and properly store in there - in turn reducing any leaking! To avoid damage to wood and laminate flooring and to avoid potential slip hazard, after use do not leave the product on wood or laminate surfaces and move to a hard surface and place the unit on an absorbent material (such as a towel) to soak up drips.
Solution Tips & Tricks
Solution Tips & Tricks
The instructions on your solution bottle are a great resource and reference. Please read the instructions before use
We suggest vacuuming your carpets before cleaning with a carpet cleaner so the carpet cleaner can be more effective and leave a better clean
Before using your carpet cleaner, test a small hidden area of your carpet for colorfastness
Put a couple drops of solution on the spot and wait a few seconds, then grab a white cloth or paper towel and apply some pressure to the solution for about 10 seconds
If there is no dye on the cloth, then the solution is safe to use
To remove solution residue from your carpet, rinse by using only water in your carpet cleaner
When cleaning, overlap the cleaned areas by a half inch to prevent streaking
Removing Stains
Some materials such as washcloths can bleed colors when used with solutions. Use only white cloths or paper towels when cleaning stains so there is no color transfer to your carpets
Never rub a stain or it will spread. Blot or press on the stain with a dry washcloth or paper towel to dry it
For tougher, set-in stains, try HOOVER® stain remover. Just apply it to stains before cleaning with your carpet cleaner and watch the stains disappear
Dirt & Mud – Allow any mud to dry to prevent it from spreading while cleaning
Loosen the dried dirt and vacuum as much debris as possible before washing
Then use a HOOVER® carpet cleaner with solution to remove any remaining stains
Pet Accidents – Blot as much of the stain as possible with water before cleaning the stain with a HOOVER® Pet cleaning solution in your carpet cleaner
Vomit – First pick up all large debris, then treat the affected area with HOOVER® Oxy cleaning solution to break down the stain and odor
Wet Paint – First apply HOOVER® Oxy Spot Remover to the area and blot it with a white cloth. Then pour hot water over the paint and run your carpet washer over the area
Tough Stains – Use HOOVER® Oxy Cleaning Formula. Its fast acting formula attacks and breaks down stains from grease, ketchup, dirt, pasta sauce, coffee, grape juice and more
Baby Formula – Use warm water and a white cloth
Gum – Use an ice cube to harden the gum first, and then use a HOOVER® carpet cleaner and solution to remove any remaining residue
Blood – Clean with cold water. Hot water can set the stain, making it harder to clean
What part should I order if I lose an attachment for my carpet washer hose?
What part should I order if I lose an attachment for my carpet washer hose?
The majority of Hoover carpet cleaner attachment hoses have the same end on them. This means that all of the attachments and piece that make up the end of the hose are interchangeable between them. The most common parts that would need to be purchased are:
38613040 - Standard Stair and Upholstery Brush
302598001 - Powered Hand Tool
43412007 - Nozzle/Valve Assembly (the small white piece that the water comes from. To replace this the two screws need to be removed and the spring must be reassembled the correct way. If the customer is unsure if they will be able to change it, then the unit would need to be taken into a service center)

What should I watch out for on specific hard floor surfaces?
What should I watch out for on specific hard floor surfaces?
Hard Wood
Cleaning your floors regularly will not only keep them looking their best, but also protects them from permanent damage that can be caused by the buildup of dirt
Hard wood floors, even when sealed, can absorb liquids and smells if not cleaned immediately, leaving water spots and stains in your floor. Be sure to clean messes like pet accidents as soon as they happen
Area rugs are a great way to protect your floors from wear, especially under your furniture and high traffic areas
Tile & Grout
Grout is vulnerable to the buildup of dirt and bacteria. Keep it clean with the HOOVER® Tile & Grout cleaning solution to extend its lifespan and remove harmful bacteria
Avoid waxing your tile floors because tile doesn’t absorb wax, contributing to staining and the buildup of bacteria
Laminate
Like tile floors, you should avoid waxing laminate flooring because it can cause dulling
Excess water left to dry on laminate floors can cause the floors to buckle and warp
Laminate is also vulnerable to scratches from furniture. Use area rugs and furniture sliders to protect your floors
